While at home in Budapest, we had the chance to go to Austria for a few days to snowboard in the Alps. We randomly picked out Kreischberg by Murau and even though the mountain looked rather humble from the bottom, after taking the lifts up to the very top (2118m) we were the ones humbled. The view was absolutely breathtaking, overlooking the mountains around us. We couldn’t help but stare at the panorama during our ride down the slope and remember how lucky we are to be able to experience such beauty.

GOLDEN 2015

“Life has no other discipline to impose, if we would but realize it, than to accept life unquestioningly. Everything… we deny, denigrate or despise, serves to defeat us in the end. What seems nasty, painful, evil, can become a source of beauty, joy and strength, if faced with an open mind. Every moment is a golden one for one who has the vision to realize it as such.”

Oranges

The secret to the best orange juice for one: 3 oranges mixed with one banana. Try it!

Being home for the holidays means so much goodness: frolicking in Budapest, catching the last of the Christmas Market, lots and lots of baking to do and of course, last but not least, having fresh squeezed orange juice with the family every morning.

Battery Park: Lady Liberty from afar.

Having a friend in town visiting for the first time gives any New Yorker the perfect opportunity to do all things tourists do, but we never make time for. So much fun walking around lower Manhattan with Gabi on this mild and sunny day!

MIX: FLYING TO EUROPE

I have been listening to this mix so much over the past few months that I felt obligated to share it with you. Whether you need background music, a road trip mix or something to put you in a rocking mood, this one shall do it for ya.

RITA’S BUTTER BRITTLE

butter brittle recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 1 cup of light colored corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1 cup of butter (2 sticks)
  • 3 cups of nuts of your choice (amazing with almonds, peanuts or cashews as well!)
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda

Combine sugar, corn syrup and water in a 3 quart saucepan. Stir sugar to dissolve. Bring to boil, add butter and stir until it melts. Clip candy thermometer onto the side of the pan. Continue to boil at a medium low heat, stir occasionally until temperature reaches 280°F. This is the soft crack stage. Stir in nuts mixed with baking soda and boil for a few more minutes. Remove from heat, pour onto buttered cookie sheet and stretch with forks.
